Gulls in the Storm
Gulls in the Storm

The Barview Jetty is the gateway to the Pacific Ocean from Tillamook Bay.  It's constructed of boulders, some the size of cars, and takes a ferocious beating, particularly in Winter.  This photo captures some of the raw power, and beauty of nature.

This image from the hill above Rockaway Beach captures a magnified sun just before it slips over the horizon.  It's rare the ocean is so calm that the suns reflection reaches nearly to the beach.

The little beach town of Rockaway Beach enjoys these kinds of sunsets often.  Sometimes the sky is red, sometimes blue and occasionally yellow.  No two sunsets are the same.

Twin Rocks
Twin Rocks

For about two weeks in Winter, the sun sets at an angle giving you this scene at iconic Twin Rocks near Rockaway Beach. In this shot, we see both the sun setting through the South rock, as well as a rain squall on the right.  The reflection off the wet sand is just a bonus.

Bandon Beach
Bandon Beach

Bandon, Oregon has some of the most impressive sea stacks on the Oregon coast.  These basalt columns are the remnants of lava flows from as far away as Yellowstone National Park which occurred 12 to 15 million years ago.

During storms, the Barview Jetty provides some great scenes for photographers and nature lovers, but you need to keep your distance.  Those waves are easily 30 feet high or more.   The sound of these explosions are impressive too!

This is somewhat of a minimalist shot.  I was struck by both its simplicity and calmness as well as the interesting way the morning fog blended the water and sky into a seamless background.

Three Graces
Three Graces

Just a couple of miles heading north out of Garibaldi, Oregon Highway 101 makes a right turn, and drivers are instantly presented with this view.  Fortunately, the Highway Department build a turnout because drivers often stop to take a pic.

Each evening, the cormorants return to these rocks, known as The Three Graces, to roost in the branches of these hardy little trees.  During the day, the top branches are favorite spots for Bald Eagles to sit and scan for a meal.

ROCKAWAY RAINFOREST
ROCKAWAY RAINFOREST

Right in the middle of this little coastal town are a few square blocks of undeveloped land.  Walking only a few dozen feet into it from a city street, and this is the view you get.   As far as anybody in town could tell me, this area has always been a native area.  Little Saltair creek runs through here before spilling into the Pacific.

Built as a U.S. Coast Guard boathouse, this 700 foot long pier is the longest in Oregon. It now serves as a community gathering place and art exhibit venue.
